How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

  1. Type the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your phone, including capital letters and spaces.
  2. Type the password and pick the security type. Most home and office routers use WPA2 or WPA3.
  3. Change the description if you like (“Guest Wi-Fi”, “Scan to connect”) and download or print the code.

Test it once: open your phone’s camera, point it at the screen and tap the Wi-Fi notification.

Where to put it

  • Cafés, restaurants and hotels: on table tents, at the counter or in rooms.
  • Offices and meeting rooms: a small sticker by the door for visitors.
  • At home: on the fridge or in the guest room, so you never have to spell out the password again.
  • Holiday rentals: in the welcome folder.

Several networks or locations?

Switch to Batch from CSV and list one network per row with the columns ssid, password, security, description. You get a code for every network at once, ready to print on a label sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Do iPhones and Android phones read Wi-Fi QR codes?

Yes. The built-in camera app on iPhone (iOS 11 and newer) and on almost all Android phones recognises Wi-Fi QR codes and offers to join the network.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is made in your browser and the password is stored only inside the code itself. Keep in mind that anyone who scans the printed code can join the network, so use a guest network for public places.

What happens if I change the password?

The printed code stops working, because the old password is stored in it. Make a new code after changing the password.

Which security type should I choose?

Choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for almost every modern router. WEP is only for very old equipment, and “No password” for open networks.
