How to make an EAN-13 barcode
Type the first 12 digits of your product number. The 13th digit, the check digit, is added automatically.
Keep “Show the number under the bars” switched on: shops expect the human-readable digits.

EAN-13 and its relatives
EAN-8 is the short version for very small packages (choose it in the code type list).
Retail shops and marketplaces such as Amazon require numbers issued to your company by GS1, the organisation that manages barcodes (GS1 Estonia, GS1 UK, GS1 US …). Made-up numbers only work inside your own systems.
What is the check digit?
The 13th digit is calculated from the first 12, so a scanner can detect misreads. Enter 12 digits and it is added for you; if you enter 13, the generator checks that the last one is correct.
How big should an EAN-13 barcode be?
The standard size is about 37 × 26 mm. It can usually be scaled between 80% and 200%. Don't make the bars shorter than the standard, and keep the white margins on both sides.
Is EAN-13 the same as UPC?
UPC-A is the 12-digit North American version. Every UPC can be written as an EAN-13 by adding a leading zero, and scanners worldwide read both.
