How to make a UPC barcode

  1. Type the 11-digit number (company prefix + product number). The 12th digit, the check digit, is added automatically.
  2. Keep the digits visible under the bars, as retailers expect them.
  3. Download as SVG for the packaging designer, or PNG at 4× for labels.

Selling outside North America? Use the EAN-13 barcode generator instead. Your UPC with a leading zero is a valid EAN-13.

Use Batch from CSV with your product numbers and names to make every barcode at once, as a ZIP or printed on label sheets.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get UPC numbers?

From GS1 US (or the GS1 office in your country). Retailers and Amazon check that the number belongs to your company prefix, so don't use numbers bought from unofficial resellers.

What is the difference between UPC and EAN?

UPC-A has 12 digits and is used mainly in the USA and Canada; EAN-13 has 13 digits and is used in the rest of the world. Scanners read both.

What size should a UPC barcode be?

The nominal size is about 37 × 26 mm (1.47 × 1.02 in). It can usually be scaled between 80% and 200%; keep the white margins on both sides.
